POLES at Nationals

PVE coaches will not be taking poles “alone”.  For those planning on traveling to Nationals, if you fly on the same flight as a coach (likely Collin), that coach can transport poles from PVE to Indy Airport or the Indy Airport to PVE (again, must be on the same flight with the coach).  Once we arrive at the destination (Norfolk/Richmond/Boston), the athlete’s parent/guardian will need to make sure to have a rental car (we have inflatable roof racks for rentals without a rack).  If we are on the same flight, coaches would be more than happy to take care of strapping poles on to the rental.

One caveat is that will not have the primary responsibility of getting poles from point A to point B.  If there are flight delays, cancelations and it is necessary to rebook a different flight or even different airline, the athlete’s parent/guardian will be responsible for getting the poles to and from Pole Vault Elite.   The only “pole” fee Pole Vault Elite charges are the fees charge to us by the airline (at the time of this post: $75 each way).  We charge this fee to every athlete if their poles fly.   It is critical to note that in order to fly with poles you MUST fly Southwest.  No other airlines from Indy to these destinations will accept poles on their fleet.  There may be situations where multiple athletes have poles in the same bag and families can split responsibility of poles if they’d like.  Family A can fly poles there and Family B can bring them home.  We can help coordinate these scenarios.
There is another option we can consider is shipping poles via southwest cargo.  This is new to me, but I’ve been chatting with other clubs that have done this and it may be a better option, however we’ve never done this.

Qualifying + Competition Info

All High School (does not apply to middle school) athletes must get a waiver through the IHSAA via your HS AD or Head Coach.
Pole Vault Elite will do the entries once you have registered.
